Members of the crew surrounded McDaids pub as they got on with another day on set. The show centres around the ‘penny dreadfuls’ – a form of cheap fiction publication of the 19th century which was often lurid in content.

The series borrows from an array of literature to provide characters including Oscar Wilde’s creation, Dorian Grey and Mary Shelley’s Victor Frankenstein. Other stars to appear in the show include Billie Piper, Josh Hartnett and Rory Kinnear.
